NYC Diner Hijinks
Zedd, 03/08/03
A mostly real tale
Well, as some of you know, Zedd was able to escape Camp No Friends for New Year’s and managed to make his way to New York City, along with a friend, for some revelry. The following story took place around lunchtime on New Year’s Day.
“Lunch? of course we’d like to join you for lunch.” “Where?” “Ok, we’ll be there ASAP.”
After hastily getting dressed in clothes from the previous night’s gala, we made our way to the 1 line and headed uptown to the 72nd street stop. We quickly spotted our friend (we’ll call her Jane) and entered the diner.
Unfortunately, they only had tables for six people and the two of us made eight. Even more crazily, two people (let’s call them Bull and Winkle) were set to leave for lunch with some parental figures in the near future. Why they even ventured to the diner is beyond me, but there they were, complicating things beyond belief.
We sat at a little booth and ordered our lunch. I decided to go with a nice little Greek omelet and Bug, my friend, being in a more lunchy sort of mood, got a burger. Soon after our drinks arrived, two waters for me, as I had a bit of a headache, Bull and Winkle announced their departure. When our waiter came around again, we told him that we would like to move over with our friends, and he didn’t seem too upset by the idea, so it was a go.
So there we are, watching our friends finish up their meal and confident that ours would be arriving soon. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and our friends had to leave to clean their apartment after waiting a goodly while for our food to arrive. Did I mention that their apartment was the scene of the party? No? Well, it was, and from what I hear, I’m glad Bug and me didn’t manage to make our way over there to help due to our missing food.
After they left, one of the waiters, sensing something gone awry, came over to ask us what was up. I guess seeing two people sitting at a table for six is not a normal sight in this diner, go figure. Anyway, we explained that we had never received our orders and he moved us to a table for four, still a little big, but oh well. Finally, we had our food and could continue with our day of getting soaked on a very, VERY wet new years day.
